LSP is very excited to team with Urban Photo Race Wex Photo Video for London’s first Urban Photo Race this September.

The photo marathon, that has been running for several years in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Berlin, is said to be the ultimate challenge for ubran photographers “who just want someone to set the rules for them.”

According to UPR the event will challenge the best street snappers to produce 18 images over 12 hours as they interpret sometimes cryptic, and other times simple set themes as they pass check points around the city.  We challenge you to interpret set themes, sometimes cryptic, sometimes simple, passing carefully located check points with a fresh eye and open spirit!

Participants are asked to take a series of 3 photos per theme, within a given time limit. These themes are delivered throughout the day at different checkpoints. The purpose is to give participants an opportunity to look at the city in a different way, to discover new places and to meet with other photographers, while using their creativity, imagination and skills to interpret and translate the themes into photographs.

After the race, these photographs will be judged by a panel of professional photographers who will vote to choose the winning images.

The winners will be announced six weeks after the event and awards will be presented at a special exhibition where their work will be on display. The exhibition is meant to be an interactive moment, where participants, organizers, Jury and anyone taking part in the promotion and support the UPR get together.

LSP’s very own Camila Cavalcante will deliver a seminar organised by UPR in collaboration with Wex Photo (former Calumet) entitled What is Street Photography Now. The seminar will take place on the evening prior to the photo race (Friday, September 21st) at their Wex Photo’s event venue on Commercial Road in London, from 4:30pm – 6:30pm.

Attendees are invited to join us from 4.30pm with the seminar beginning at 5pm where you will be introduced to the UPR team and concept of the following days photo race.

Camila will then provide the key lecture discussing the history, styles and ethics of street photography. Camila holds a degree in Journalism from the Federal University of Alagoas, a post-graduate degree in Journalism and Cultural Criticism from the Federal University of Pernambuco, and a Masters of the Arts degree from University of Westminster, London. Currently Camila teaches street photography at The London School of Photography.

UPR will then introduce the Jury and their work, continuing the discussion and themes highlighted by Camilla.

The discussion will then be opened and up to the floor and break out into networking to conclude the event at 6.30pm. The UPR foundation will provide attendees with a complimentary non-alcoholic drink.
